Lotus oil painting
By Dieter Marzinger, mouth painter
I'm gonna get started on a lotus painting for a friend, I like the
symbolism of the plant and want to see how well I can incorporate it, Monique, the future owner, is also very
creative and has given me Carte blanche on the creative process, I like that.
I'll let you know how the creative process goes. - 12 January

23 January- My first idea, I'm working composition and color ideas.
I know Monique likes earthy colors and isn't particularly fond of blue.
This skyline is nice but ver intricate, the reflection won't be easy.
The best reference I found, I like it and will most probably use it.
Dark background excentuates the briliant white of the flower.
The yellow is a lovely play with the green.
The meditating hands is great symbolism.
I'll hide them some what in murkey water.
I want the roots of the lotus to glow in the palms of the hands. Some more symbolism.

I like this horizon line much more.
The colours are much better, I like the vanishing point, nice depth.
This will stay
Playing with potential colors, I like this idea more.
I try to get going, but the canvas I thought would have been ideal was way to big for upside-down painting (my
explination for painting from my back).
Monique gets me smaller canvas, I should start this weekend.

Monique (The client) gets second thoughts on the composition of ideas...

I’ve been thinking about the painting again, and I am having
second thoughts on the roots/meditation idea you had. Sorry, I know I said you have carte blanche!
I know the lotus and meditation also goes hand-in-hand, but I want it to focus more on the growth aspect ie the
“stingel” part of the plant in the water and the flower itself. Is there maybe a way (as mentioned before) of doing
a subtle visual of body in water (in the background) growing / reaching up towards the light aka the flower?
Dunno... Just not too keen on the hands.
Any thoughts?

If you don’t like it you are under no obligation, we made an agreement on that. I harbor no ill feeling because I
determined to do something I liked. The obligation I will honour is that you get first option on it.
If I get an idea on how to do something in the lines of a figure becoming the lotus you the first to get a mail
from me. I can then do you another, second attempts are often better by the way.
Monique: Cool cool!
All left to your amazing creativeness x

Moving on...
Dieter: I don't like doing commission
work, it is hard enough to satisfy myself nevermind another...
I do it under resistance, I have come to the conclusion that if I do a commission I must like the idea, if the
clien't is not happy then no one gets hurt.
So the background is developing on the
original Lotus artwork , it was still wet this afternoon, will try again tomorrow
morning.
The figure in the root has got a hold
of my brain, trying to sort it out, it kept me awake last night and had me in a bad mood today, it infuriates me
when people don't like my ideas, childish if not unchecked.
So I did some image searching...

maybe this could work,
definitely helps with creativity...

A better posture...
I'm starting to see potential
here.
One last picture, for beauty sake.

Is that not lovely?
I love it!!!

07 March, I've completed the background, the composition needs something on bottom left to
balance it, I have an idea.
Don't judge the painting now, it has a very long way to go... I'd love to know what your
interpretation is?
